Thanks to the cooperation of cell phone manufacturers, there will soon be a universal cell phone charger that can be used to charge any make or model of cell phone. It will be based on the USB interface that we see everyday on our PC’s and laptops.
Having a universal charger will be quite helpful for users, and it will also help the environment, by reducing the waste of old chargers that we carelessly throw away whenever we get a new cell phone. We’ll be able to charge our phones using any charger that is available, and we can keep those old chargers even when we get a new phone.
By 2012, most cell phones will be able to use the universal charger. Most phone manufacturers will continue to make original chargers for a period of time until the transition to the universal cell phone charger is complete.
