Because of the internet, many travelers are finding themselves in the midst of a coastal vacations scam where they lose both money, and the enjoyment of a relaxing trip away from home.  Many of the scams revolve around renting a beach property, sending a deposit and then arriving to the property to find the resident has no idea who you are.  There are several ways to insure your coastal vacation isn’t ruined by a two-bit internet thug.  First, make sure you get several references for any property you rent, and consider going through a reputable real estate office to find a vacation home.  The price may be a bit higher, but not having to worry about being a victim of fraud is the reward.  And if you can, consider renting a house form a family friend or other person you know and trust.
