Choose a Trellis

When I hear “garden trellis”, two images come to mind. I think of the lattice trellises that often sit along side a house, or I picture the type of structure that arches over an entryway. These are both beautiful, but a trellis can be any structure that plants can grow on. Choose one of these, find something more unique or make your own with wood or iron.

Put the Trellis in the Ground

The trellis needs to be securely anchored into the ground. If it’s not far enough in the ground, it might not stand up on its own over time, let alone holding a plant that grows on it. Insert it at least a foot into the ground. For extra support, pack in the soil around it and anchor it with some large stones.

Climbing Plant

There are lots of good climbing plants available, such as green beans or roses, to choose from. Plant these close to the trellis so that they can easily reach the trellis and start growing on it. Train the plant to climb the trellis by using twist ties or string to loosely tie some branches to the trellis here and there. Trim some of the branches that are close to the base to encourage the plant to grow it’s taller branches upward instead of more branches underneath.

Keep any eye on your trellis garden and encourage growth through pruning and maintenance. Soon you won’t have to worry about growth because it will take off on it’s own. At that point just keep it healthy and looking neat and beautiful.

Diving In Puerto Galera Like Rockstars

Why is it like being a rockstar?

Because when you’re a rockstar, you live however the hell you want. That’s what it’s like when you go diving here. You get to do whatever the hell you want, whenever the hell you want.

Sound good?

Great.

But why is the diving good?

Because I said it’s good.

Actually, there’s a bunch of great reasons why the diving rocks.

First, it’s the Philippines. If you haven’t been here, let me sum it up – great diving, warm tropical weather and hot Filipina girls.

Not bad, eh?

The diving is incredible. From extremely colorful fish to ancient warships, there are so many great things to see underwater. If you want to see it all, you’ll need to spend a few months diving here. There are more than 40 great scuba dive sites in the water around Puerto Galera.

Another great thing about the diving in Puerto Galera is that there are dive shops everywhere. You don’t need to worry about bringing your own gear. Since diving is a huge sport in Puerto Galera, they have everything you need here, including tanks, weights and compressors. Just bring yourself and a small backpack.

The other day, I dived with the thresher sharks. I took my camera and got some great snaps. But the best bit, by far, was seeing the reaction of my family’s faces when I emailed them home. They were gobsmacked with how awesome the diving in Puerto Galera is, and we’re a family of old-time divers.

The most popular item you’re going to come across is a skort. This is essentially looks like a shirt, but is actually shorts. Golf is one of those sports where you’re going to find yourself bending over, swinging and moving your body in awkward ways. A regular skirt would put you in a position where you could find yourself exposed. A skort takes away all the risk of this, but at the same time allowing you to look great in something that appears to be a skirt. There are many items out there, but I’d stick with something safe like a Nike golf skort.

When it comes to the top you wear, you don’t have much of a choice here. You’re basically stuck with what men are stuck with and that is a simple golf shirt. A lot of women try to go sleeveless, but this really depends on the course. Some will allow it and some won’t, so your mileage may vary. The safest bet is to get a golf shirt. They do come tailored for women, which means the sleeves on them are shorter and the colors tend to be more feminine. This is the safest bet for the course.

Going with a simple skort and golf shirt will make a great outfit. You can vary this type of outfit slightly. It’s appropriate to have the right shoes and socks with this outfit as well. Items like sandals, flip flops or anything similar simply won’t work on a golf course.
