Introducing Canary Islands Archipelago

Centuries ago it was said that the Canary Islands were an arrival point for those who sailed off from the Mediterranean Sea, travelling south across the Hercules columns, finally reaching the archipelago. There are in fact seven islands here. Gran Canaria (Grand Canary), Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Tenerife, La Palma, Gomera, and Hierro. There are also a few scattered, but uninhabited rocks and islands in the chain. These islands constitute the two most westerly provinces for Spain, on an average latitude which puts them near the northern boundary of the Tropic of Cancer.

An alignment across the Atlantic would put that very roughly in line with Florida. The islands therefore have a sub-tropical climate due to the spring-like weather that prevails through the winter. Each island has its own distinctive geology and unique beauty. They were formed from the depths of the ocean by a series of volcanic upheavals, a long process which is still in progress. They have mountain ranges with hidden peaks, shrouded by clouds, sandy deserts, abrupt rocky cliffs, perfectly formed craters and forests with lakes and reservoirs. It can be said that each island has a micro-climate of its own, and a history still quite young. Their origin is wrapped in legends woven about them by poets and Greek historians, resulting in the more popular name — ‘The Fortunate Isles’. The ships of Columbus on their way to the discovery of America, stopped at Gomera and from there sailed off across what was then a mysterious ocean.

The islands of today are a shopper’s paradise as there is no customs barrier. Sometimes even the duty free shops at the airports have difficulty in competing with the plaza shops for products such as drink, cigarettes, electrical goods, watches or jewellery. Exotic buys are also to be had, whether a crocodile skin from Nigeria or real Chinese silk, these islands can often offer them at prices cheaper than in their country of origin.

There is good shore fishing to be had from any of the islands, and excellent potential for deep sea bluewater sport, limited only by the numbers of suitable craft. Many of the islands have small fishing villages, but the craft used are long wooden boats which are unsuitable and too slow for trolling for tuna and marlin.

Southwest Airlines Set Up A New Reward Program

It’s been a stellar year for Southwest Airlines. In a struggling economy, its refreshing to see that one of the most successful airlines is one that puts a large emphasis on pleasing their customers. And now, with their recent acquisition of Airtran airways, they can now take that stellar customer service to the East coast.

The East coast market is going to do its best to keep Southwest Airlines on its toes. After all, it is already glutted with airlines undercutting each other and doing their best to chase out the competition. Southwest has started making adjustments to its airline programs to be better able to compete. One of the first programs it updated was the Rapid Rewards program.

Southwest’s changes to their Rapid Rewards program has been frustrating to a lot of people. However, in the end it really allows a lot more people to be able to use their points for free flights. Under the old program the miles expired a lot more easily and were harder to earn. Now, with the new program, the ability to earn points faster and to build them up longer means customers can use their points for what they want without some of the previous restrictions.

The new Southwest Credit Card has been launched to be able to better integrate with the Rapid Rewards program changes. It’s designed in two versions called the “Plus” and the “Premier”. The Plus card is the budget model and only costs a $59 annual fee. It gives you 3,000 miles each year. The Premier card is a little pricier and costs $99 per year. However, it gives you 6,000 bonus miles, a $100 value.

So customers who use these cards on a steady basis can find that their continual purchases of gas and groceries can add up over the months and lead to a free flight.

The best thing about the changes that to the new Rapid Rewards program is the removal of the blackout dates. With no blackout dates or seat restrictions, Southwest customers can actually use their reward points to book flights that really matter to them. Plus, since Southwest doesn’t charge baggage fees, the customer will save even more money than customers on other airlines – something that customers are starting to notice.

Paris is a pretty wondrous city. Of course many people believe it’s full of cliches, I like to think it actually LIVES UP to the cliche of being romantic, dazzling and delectable. The only thing is, Paris is not necessarily cheap. So what about people who are there on a budget? What are some free things they can get up to?

Having A Picnic At The Eiffel Tower

It doesn’t cost anything to sit on the grass parks in front of the Eiffel Tower. So grab some picnic treats (a fresh baguette comes to mind, loaded with sweet cherry tomatoes and smoked ham and slices of brie cheese – don’t forget the bottle of Rose as well!) and a rug (or the poor mans rug which is some plastic shopping bags with clothes on top) and get ready for a cheap extravaganza.

The best thing about it (apart from the lovely food) is that at dusk the Tower puts on a light show. It’s great to see, and it’s on every night!

So as long as the weather is nice, a free picnic in front of the Eiffel Tower is definitely the way to go!

Les Puces (which means The Fleas) is a massive market held every weekend near the Port de Clignagncourt metro stop in Paris. There are tons of things to see (you don’t have to buy anything), and it’s worth going just for the experience. Diving In Puerto Galera Like Rockstars

Cool.

Why is it like being a rockstar?

Because when you’re a rockstar, you live however the hell you want. That’s what it’s like when you go diving here. You get to do whatever the hell you want, whenever the hell you want.

Sound good?

Great.

But why is the diving good?

Because I said it’s good.

Actually, there’s a bunch of great reasons why the diving rocks.

First, it’s the Philippines. If you haven’t been here, let me sum it up – great diving, warm tropical weather and hot Filipina girls.

Not bad, eh?

The diving is incredible. From extremely colorful fish to ancient warships, there are so many great things to see underwater. If you want to see it all, you’ll need to spend a few months diving here. There are more than 40 great scuba dive sites in the water around Puerto Galera.

Another great thing about the diving in Puerto Galera is that there are dive shops everywhere. You don’t need to worry about bringing your own gear. Since diving is a huge sport in Puerto Galera, they have everything you need here, including tanks, weights and compressors. Just bring yourself and a small backpack.

The other day, I dived with the thresher sharks. I took my camera and got some great snaps. But the best bit, by far, was seeing the reaction of my family’s faces when I emailed them home. They were gobsmacked with how awesome the diving in Puerto Galera is, and we’re a family of old-time divers.

After your diving, relax in one of the many bars and restaurants with a few ice cold beers – you deserve it. Soon, the nightlife will kick into gear and it’ll be time to get your party shoes on. Tomorrow, you can do it all over again.

Such is the diving in Puerto Galera. It’s tropical paradise, and we mean to keep it a secret for as long as we can. Come! But don’t tell anyone how great it is or the secret will be out of the bag.
