Covered Patio Plans Come Easy
When I first started looking for the plans I wanted to use to build my own covered patio, I hit the internet. There is no better place to go than there. I prefer Google, though I know other search engines could do the trick too. I like how I can easily find pictures or ‘images’ using Google’s navigation. So, I just typed in something like “patio covers” and out came the information I was looking for.
There are tens of thousands of results, so you’ll have to have some idea as to what you are looking for if you go this route. Another option is to search for covered patio plans in the home magazines. Television is another option. Watching channels like HGTV for hours and you’ll be bound to see some patio decorating ideas and tips for construction. There are also a variety of ways you can look for ideas in your own local neighborhoods by going on home tours and open houses.
These are all great ways to get ideas for the look of your new patio cover. But what about if you are actually more into the building side? In other words, once you’ve found the type or style you like, now it is time to actually build this thing. Well, I guess we are talking about if someone is a do-it-yourself type of individual. I don’t expect to see Derek Jeter out there with a nail gun – but he probably would like it, all guys do.
So, what about this part of the project? Well, this part needs a different search in your trusty search engine. Now that you’ve found those trusty plans, you’ll need to create a materials list and learn a thing or two about constructing the type of covered patio you are looking to have in your yard. Keep in mind that we are talking about more simple patio structures, like a pergola, gazebo or trellis. When we start talking about a truly covered patio that may tie into your home’s roof line and things like that, it is best to contact a local contractor as they will be much more versed with code issues and things like that. Besides, you don’t want to spend the next 6 months building this thing, you want to be under it, in a hammock, right?
If it were up to me, I would suggest you look into building a pergola, that some would call an arbor or trellis. The name is not significant, it is the overall design and structure that you are after. If you can find pergola plans online, use those as the framework, so to speak, for constructing your own. Remember, when it comes to a truly covered patio, you might want to call in the pros.
