The best place to obtain such information is the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Individuals who live in locations without the DMV should look for organizations that handle business licensing.
Depending on the state laws, individuals may be required to pass a background check in order to become dealers. In other instances, the individual may be required to meet particular credit scores requirements, participate in training programs and/or pay what are referred to as surety bonds. Certain states demand that individuals who want to become dealers pay surety bonds. The bonds protect consumers from fraudulent dealers.
Individuals wishing to become dealers are also required to purchase liability insurance. This type of insurance is important as it helps protect the dealer’s business. Liability insurance helps protect the dealer from any lawsuit that may be filed especially in the event that a customer/client is injured while at the dealer’s shop.
