To start your day off right and give yourself a mental boost, find some meaningful quotes to read every day. Have them on hand to inspire you with positivity before you go about your day. Slowly but surely, you should see the positive effects start to make real changes in your life. Or you may be facing trying circumstances, some that threaten to undermine your sense of self and have you feeling like you can’t go on. Find quotes that give you the strength to go on, and you just might find a way.
For those who are struggling with a disproportionate share of hardship and burdens, consider this quote by Harriet Beecher Stowe, who said:
“When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you, never give up then, for that is just the time that the tide will turn.”
Stowe faced the incredible oppression of slavery without backing down, and sure enough was able to make changes that were important to her. Interestingly enough, her words echo the wisdom found in the Chinese classic the “Tao Te Ching”, which stated that when things go towards their extremes they change into their opposites. It’s doubtful that Stowe ever had any exposure to the Tao Te Ching, but her experience shows that its words were true, at least in her own life. If you feel like things in your life can’t get any worse, you are probably right. They will actually probably start to get better, if you will yourself to change what you can in order to start improving your life.
Of course, changes don’t necessarily happen with one action. More often, real change is the result of sustained effort. This is reflected in one of Ruth Gordon’s short meaningful quotes that says “Courage is like a muscle. We strengthen it with use.” So for both people who are down-and-out and those who need some help in bringing more meaning into their lives but are afraid to do so, remember that it’s necessary to be persistent.
