A chinchilla cage should be at least two meters cubed and ideally larger. Although they are nocturnal creatures and very quiet during the day, chinchillas are very active at night. They like to jump and so vertical height is especially important. You must also make room for a sand bath, which is an essential item for any chinchilla. Finally, you must include a nest box. Optional items you may wish to include a running wheel and other toys for your chinchilla to enjoy.
