Ultralight flyfishing is a great way to be able to simply grab a rod, a couple of baits, and go sling some lightweight flies around, pulling fish in from every direction. Not only is this a great way to get out on the water for the afternoon, but it is also an incredible way to practice your casting stroke and retrieve. Using lighter rods with lighter lines will help you be able to develop your hand and wrist motions to perfect placing the fly right where you want it. The art of this skill does take some time to learn, but once you’ve got it perfected you can begin chasing lunker trophies with the 8 weight and 9 weight fly rods. This is where the big boys lie, but catching a grip of fish while ultralight flyfishing is just as much fun!
