Why Wood for Wall Clocks?
By Antonio Guest Author from Wall Clocks Place
You can find that there are many materials to use when doing home decorating. One of the most classic and time-tested is wood. While you may find that there more contemporary or classic looking wood styles or stains, the underlying presence of wood in any home is undeniably rich. There is just a certain warmth and feeling of a home with wooden accents. So, it should come as no surprise that wood wall clocks are a timeless addition to any home.
What you will find as you search online is that there are many different styles of wall clocks. Some are made of wood, some of metal. There small ones and even large wall clocks. This is starting to sound like a Dr. Seuss book. Ironically, there are even Dr. Seuss clocks! These are all just variations on a theme that is to be able to have both an art and functional piece on your wall.
In the past, these clocks would have been much more strict functional pieces. Sure, the homeowners would still appreciate a quality looking piece, but the need was to tell time. Now, you can find the time on most any appliance from your stove to microwave, cable box, or cell phone. Telling time is not the feature that makes these antique wall clocks so special. The key ingredient that gives them their appeal is the richness of their character. You just can’t get that from a cheap plastic clock that probably even tells more accurate time than the old key-wound style of wall clock.
Imagine a time not too long ago in our history, probably a generation or two ago depending on your age, when the living room or den was a congregating place for the family. That is where we would find a clock proudly hung almost holding court. It would be keeping the time for the family. The stories that old clock could tell. Back then, it would have surely been constructed of wood by purely practical reasons. It was a much simpler material to use and was a more traditional choice. While original clocks that were mounted on the sides of mountains or buildings in city squares, even train stations and hotel lobbies were likely metal, those for the home were of wood. Now, you can keep that tradition alive. There are places online to find antiques like the various auction sites. You could also browse your local garage and estate sales. These are great places to find wood wall clocks.
