Apparently it was way back in ancient Greek times that people first started using wooden window shutters. Their main purpose was (and still is) to protect their homes from excessive sunlight and rain, and to give a greater level of privacy to the people within. It wasn’t long before man discovered glass, and this material took precedence over wood for covering windows. In some places, however, wood shutters were still needed, as the heavy storms would smash the glass windows, and back then they were extremely expensive to replace.

Nowadays, window shutters are still used for the exact same reasons. Peoples needs have not changed in all those hundreds of years, and wood remains one of the favorite materials used to protect our windows. The technology has improved of course, the ancient Greeks could have never imagined that hundreds of years later we would be moving the louvers of our shutters with a remote control.
